In discharge of it’s statutory oversight function on Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the national government,,the senate committee on National Identity and National Population, invited the National Identity Management Commission to ascertain some of the challenges hampering the seamless delivery of a credible globally acceptable and recognised national identification system for the country.
To underscore the importance of the meeting, the Director General and chief Executive Officer of the Organisation Engnr. Abisoye Coker-Odutose led her team to the parley. The dialogue, which was held at the National assembly complex,was presided over by the vice chairman of the senate committee,Distinguished Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District. The executive director of the commission acquainted the committee members of some of the problems foremost being infrastructural and logistical issues in NIN enrolment processes and procedures. She assured the senate committee members of the commission’s determination to overcome those hurdles and offer a national identification system for Nigeria that is compliant with international best standards. Furthermore, she pointed out that measures are being put in place by the organisation to enhance operational efficiency and extend the reach of NIN enrolment nationwide.
Both parties agreed to work in concert in coming up with creative and enduring solutions to those factors that impede the smooth delivery of the national identification system by the commission. Engnr. Abisoye Coker-Odutose appreciated the committee members for their invitation and proactive engagement with them. She affirmed that the recommendations emanating from the conversation shall be fully implemented in an excellent, accountable, and transparent manner.
