The distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly Senator Gbenga Daniel has expressed shock, grief and dismay over the sudden death of Herbert Wigwe his wife, son and Abimbola Ogunbanjo whose death occurred in far away United States in the night of Friday, February 9, 2024 when the chopper headed to Las Vegas they were travelling by crashed near a border city between Nevada and California.
The Senator described Wigwe on the floor of the red chamber as a friend ,a distinguished banker, a philanthropist, and an educationist whom they are all proud of. In the same vein, he drew attention to Otunba Abimbola Ogunbanjo, who also died in the fatal flight. He observed that Ogunbanjo is from his senatorial district and views his death as a personal loss because of the close family ties between them. In his words ‘The devastating news of the death of Otunba Ogunbanjo, alongside Dr. Herbert Wigwe, a former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, and others still remain a bitter pill to swallow. I am yet to recover from the shock,’. Furthermore, he extolled the virtues of the late leading corporate lawyer and boardroom guru, ‘Otunba Ogunbanjo, who also held the prestigious title of Baamofin, made a lasting impact in the nation’s financial community, and the void created by his death would be difficult to fill. I hope his life of service, dedication, and philanthropy would continue to inspire the coming generations,”
OGD offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.
