The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute one Maazi Kanayo over alleged incitement of violence against Igbo Muslims in South-Eastern Nigeria.
The call was made on Wednesday by MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, following the circulation of a viral video in which Kanayo allegedly called for the kidnapping and live burial of Igbo Muslims.
Professor Akintola stated that the remarks were directed at Muslims living in Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo states, warning that such statements pose a grave threat to lives and could destabilise communities in the region.
“MURIC is in possession of a viral video clip in which Maazi Kanayo allegedly instructed potential kidnappers and killers to target Igbo Muslims. Some of those mentioned are traditional rulers, and any attack on them could trigger communal unrest in the South-East,” he said.
The group called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to act swiftly to prevent any possible violence. “Time is of the essence, as the lives of thousands of innocent people are at risk,” Professor Akintola added.
MURIC noted that the incident reflects growing concerns over threats against religious minorities in Nigeria, stressing the need for urgent and decisive action by law enforcement agencies to preserve peace and security in the region.
