JOHANNESBURG – Members of the Mandela family say they believe justice will be done in the case against a relative accused of rape.

The 24-year-old man is accused of raping a 15-year-old teenager, whom he claims he believed was 18. He appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he has been granted bail of R7,000.

Family member Ndaba Mandela says he is relieved about Tuesday’s outcome and believes justice will be served.“Justice is what is we believe in. God is what we believe in, and we know God will always come through for the righteous.” Family members were seen embracing each other outside the court as they prepared to take one of their own home after more than a week in police custody.

In his affidavit, the 24-year-old accused has asked for his case to be treated as that of a normal civilian and not a Mandela.

He is expected back in court in mid-September.
